Chickens

We currently have a flock of approximately 30 chickens, consisting of Plymouth Rock, Black Australorp and Rhode Island Red breeds. All three of these breeds are great egg layers, each producing approximately 200-260 eggs per year. These ladies give us beautiful brown large-XLarge eggs. Our flock is also doing double duty, because in addition to providing us with eggs, they provide us with fertilizer to use all over the homestead.

Cornish Cross Chicken for Sale | Freedom Ranger's Hatcheries

Each spring, we raise a flock of Cornish Cross chickens. We have raised these chickens in the past, and they are wonderful meat chickens. These are quick growing birds, and are ready for butcher between 8-10 weeks. We have learned from raising these chickens in the past that you do not allow them to have feed constantly at their disposal. One flock we raised got so big, they were almost the size of turkeys!! This group of birds will be semi-free range. We will be raising them in a large fenced in area with two lean-to’s for shelter. In addition to their daily grain allotment, the large area will also give them access to bugs and improving our yard at the same time.
