We are Luke and April Burkhart, we married in 2004 and have 3 teenagers under our roof these days. We started our homesteading journey in Fort Jennings in 2009 by tending to a large vegetable garden and preserving our produce. We expanded our village-homestead by raising meat chickens; and while the people in town enjoyed seeing the chickens, we wanted more for our homestead. So, we began our search for a little piece of country living we could call our own, and started the next chapter in our lives, harboring great aspirations of homesteading and self-sufficiency.
In 2017, we were lucky enough to find a little 2-acre lot west of Ottoville with a quaint home and small shed. Since moving to our little slice of Heaven, here on earth, we have been slowly working on transforming our property into a homestead that is fruitful. We started the transformation by adding an extensive raised row garden, raising meat chickens, egg layers, guineas, ducks and most recently, geese. We have further expanded our vegetable garden to include more produce options. In the future, we are planning for the addition of piglets and green house.
God has truly blessed our 2 acre homestead, and we are looking forward to taking what God has provided in resources and talents to our family, and in turn provide goods and services that can be a blessing to others and our community. Starting in spring of 2022 we will be offering fresh produce, fresh eggs, homemade noodles and homemade breads via word of mouth and personal transaction. Contact us for pricing and availability.
